Wally West
Once upon a time, I fell for a boy with lightning in his eyes. DC Comics
|
"My name is Wally West. I'm the Flash. The Fastest Man Alive."
Wally was born to Rudolph and Mary West in Blue Valley, Nebraska. In his own words, his father was always more focused on getting rich quick than raising a son while his mother was too busy worrying about what everyone thought of her to worry about him. As a result of the parental neglect and a lack of friends growing up, Wally would often daydream, most notably about being the Flash.
But one summer, when he was ten, his parents sent him to Central City to stay with his beloved Aunt Iris. That's when Iris introduced Wally to her police scientist of a boyfriend, Barry Allen. Barry claimed to be a 'friend' of the Flash and told Wally he could arrange a meeting for him with his idol back at the science lab. True to his word, the Flash did show up while Barry had to conveniently step out for a moment. Wally proceeded to pepper the Flash with questions including asking him how he got his powers. While detailing the lab accident that created the Fastest Man Alive, the Flash aligned the chemicals the same way they were that fateful night in demonstration, and Wally expressed a wish that something similar could happen to him. The costumed hero told him the odds of a repeat performance was astronomical, but as luck would have it, lightning literally did strike twice as the accident repeated itself with Wally at the center. Soon after, Wally, now blessed with the power of super-speed, took up the superhero alias of Kid Flash and worked alongside his hero, who had revealed himself to be none other than Barry Allen, as his protégé. He found himself spending more and more time in Central City thanks to the easy travel, and when his parents finally got divorced, he officially moved there to live with Iris, whom he considered to be the first person to ever truly love him. Wally went on to become a founding member of the superhero team known as the Teen Titans with the other four original sidekicks and Lilith Clay. He quickly developed into being the heart of the group thanks to his optimistic, compassionate, and caring nature, and as the Titans roster expanded, he maintained that role up until his disappearance on a mission some time after his high school graduation. His disappearance was revealed to be the work of Abra Kadabra, an old Flash foe, who managed to toss Wally into the timestream and erase his existence from the memories of everyone in the world. Without an anchor to tie him back to reality, Wally spent the next five-plus years trapped inside the Speed Force. During his time being stuck in the extra-dimensional energy source that fuels speedsters across the multiverse, Wally discovered someone had altered his world's history and he was able to recapture pieces of memories of what his life was like before the timeline changed including the knowledge he had been the Flash. Desperate to tell his loved ones about what happened and warn them of the threat that still existed, Wally forced himself to manifest outside the Speed Force to appear in front of them. But one-by-one, his former friends and allies didn't remember him and he found his chances of finding a connection dwindling. With the Speed Force on the verge of fully absorbing his very essence, Wally ultimately ended up in front of his mentor, and tearfully thanked an incredibly confused Barry for giving him the greatest life a kid could ever ask for. Accepting his death was imminent, Wally said his final goodbye, but before the Speed Force could permanently claim him, Barry's memories of him returned and the older speedster grabbed his arm. Anchored back to reality once again, Wally took up the Flash name and sought out his former teammates now known as the Titans in an attempt to get answers about a world that had forgotten him.
